Olympic Pita

Middle Eastern restaurants are in abundance in Flatbush, offering lafa bread (similar to pita -- just larger, softer, and stronger), kibbe (a kind of meatball from bulgar wheat and ground meat), falafel, Moroccan cigars (ground meat encased in deep fried batter), and shwarma.

New York magazine (July 2003) rated Olympic Pita (1419 Coney Island Ave.) as one of the seven best falafel sources in New York. Here the lafa bread is prepared in front of you in an oven that looks like a cement mixer. Desert is baklava with Turkish coffee.
